Will my fellow millionaires (& billionaires) be taking their yachts to Monaco next year if F1 goes budget?

If F1 does not continue to carry the financial cachet of recent years, but becomes known more for frugality, will it still attract the well endowed following that it currently has?

Come to that, will Monaco still be pleased to host a Grand Prix if the well healed choose to go to the polo instead?
I somehow cannot see the marina full of 20ft Dawncraft & everyone wearing knotted hankies while opening their clingfilmed sarnies in front of the camera being a great advert.

  1. Nope I’ll be parking my 200ft yacht at sunny Bognor next May, sod them!
PS Whats wrong with knotted hankies?

  2. Probably not. Maybe Fiat will replace the Ferrari team.

  3. Ya sure Monaco isn’t running on any buget :)

  4. I’m looking forward to some of the nouveau-riche riff-raff clearing out of the way and leaving the stage to those who belong…so hard to find a space to park one’s yacht at this time of year…

  5. Excellent, I know a bloke who knows a bloke who drives the magnificent Hythe ferry http://www.hytheferry.co.uk/ all of us can meet up and chug to Monaco at a steady 6 knots next year!
All the British millionaires will soon have to put their money in the London 2012 Olympics anyway, leaving Monaco a race fan mecca for real race fans.

I don’t know if I will bring mine in anymore. My yacht insurance company onlyyacth.com always raises my premium because of the increased risk of vandalism during the Monaco GP.

I am considering using my helicopter to hover above the track for the entire GP, that way I can see all the action at all parts of the track simultaneously.

I was under the impression it was a budget cap and not a knotted hankie?

And “clingfilmed sarnies” made me think of Mad Max for some peculiar reason….

  8. They might be there, but with next year’s possible budget caps, they may only be able to moor their dinghies in the harbour!

As for the last Q, I’d say it depends on how badly Bernie screws the pooch. If he completely blows it, maybe NASCAR will run an exhibition race for the racing faithful.

    Maybe not…
